It seemed that once again her mother neglected to do even the basic household chores and left them for Alyssa to handle, and if Alyssa didn't do them she was more than willing to bet that her siblings would wearing nothing until Alyssa eventually broke down. It wasn't that Alyssa's mother didn't have time to do it, especially in between her three jobs, but it just seemed that she made no effort to do anything for her children. Alyssa long ago learned that whatever money came into the house made from her mother went into the rent, the actual housing but never the food or cleaning supplies they seemed to always run out of. Once Alyssa reached 13 she was able to obtain a part-time job to pay the difference and she knew she would be able to help more financially if she just dropped out of school, but her father taught her the value of education and it would be worth more than money itself in the future if she just stuck with it. Alyssa sighed to herself and thanked whatever god or angel that was looking over her that her siblings were being taken care of by a neighbor for the night. She had a big exam coming up and whenever her siblings were around she could never seem to get any work or studying to do since they were so young and needed attention all the time, not that she would ever complain. Alyssa dropped the groceries that were in her hand and walked to pick up the clothing from the corner. She would have to walk to the ocean today to wash them out, something she definitely didn't plan on doing. She knew it was going to cut into her dinner time, so she decided just not to eat. Making a check list in her head of things to do before studying Alyssa wanted to just crawl up and cry in the corner of her "room". The garden in the back that was responsible for most of their food hadn't been growing as well as she expected this cycle and it was almost time to pay the land lord and her mother didn't seem to have it. So much overwhelmed Alyssa that she just wanted to make it all go away. Tucking her silver hair behind her ear she breathed in and held back the tears knowing it would get her nowhere. She was just about to walk out with the bag of clothes when she heard a knock at the door. "Coming!" Alyssa shouted.
